What terminal to use when using SAM in single user mode

I have a HP712/80 with HP9.02 running...my screen is a Gateway SVGA Crystal Scan 1281. When SAM asks what type of terminal I'm using I selected the vt100 (thought ascii would do the job too). But when SAM starts its all gibberish, characters all over the board. Any idea on what screen selection to use?

Thanks,

Rich.

Try using hp for the term type - should work ok for the console (graphic or text).

Re: What terminal to use when using SAM in single user mode

Since you are not using an HP terminal but a PC, most likely running a terminal emulator, changing the $TERM value to hp will not work. The default HyperTerminal supplied with PC/Windows is a poor emulation of ANSI or vt100. Currently there is no terminfo database entry that accurately maps the HyperTerminal so the special escape sequences used by SAM, swinstall, etc, will not function properly, especially softkeys.

Use a true HP terminal emulator such as WRQ's Reflection product (not Reflection/X which is primarily X11 emulation).
