When VXVM is going to replace LVM?

Does anyone know when the VXVM is going
to replace LVM as the default volume manager
for HP-UX?

(I would need to know this in advance because
the strong dependence between MCSG and the volume manager)

VxVM (Veritas Volume Manager) has already replaced LVM in HP-UX 11i v1.5 (aka 11.20) which runs on the Itanium architecture machines.

Read the line in the link that shiju posted that says "lvm will always be for the boot disk."

Ignite requires vg00 to be boot disk. HP will not go full VxVM until ignite supports it. (My opinion, BTW.)

It may be quite a while before an OS can be VxVM for boot disk, and even longer before it is required for an HPUX OS. At the speed technology is going, that may mean that the whole question is moot, we just don't know it yet.

I say, if you want plain lvm, go ahead. If you want mixed, go ahead. No need to worry about when the replace date is, next year the story could be totally different. If HP goes that way, it will be several years after the annoucement that it would be required, anyway. You could be looking at several generations of servers. (Depending on your funding model.)
