Where's my mirror/UX?

I installed the 11i OE on a test box in my basement last week. I was doing a reinstall because somehow the first installation was kinda funny; one of the symptoms (among many) was that Mirror/UX wasn't there, and I thought the OE had it bundled!

Anyway, after the reinstall, I still can't find my Mirror/UX. Did I screw something up? I didn't get any errors when I installed. I'm running it on an old D310.

Thanks!!

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

Mirror-UX is not included in the base OE install. You need to install the HPUX11i-OE-Ent (Enterprise) version to have it automatically included.

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

Aha!! Are there separate disks for this, or can I activate the Enterprise version with a codeword?

Thanks!!

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

Same disks. The cold install should have had a screen where you could choose which OE you wanted.

However, I believe you can still do the update by running:

/usr/sbin/update-ux -s /cdrom HPUX11i-OE-Ent

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

I did the advanced installation, but the only options it gave me were the OE and the Base installations. I went with the OE.

It's entirely possible I'm an idiot, and when I'm saying "OE" I should be saying "OE-Ent.", and that I did install the Enterprise solution. Unfortunately I don't have access to my home network from my office at the moment, so I can't log in and find out.

Anyway, I was only given two options when I installed, and I picked the one that was NOT the "base" installation. Is that the Enterprise? If so, any ideas why Mirror/UX didn't make it into the installation?

Thanks for all your help!!!

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

I was able to log into the box at home and do an swlist; seems I have the Base OS and the "Operating Environment Component." Does HP issue disks that don't have the Enterprise software on them with certain servers?

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

There are no other disks.

Use swlist to check what OE is installed.

$ swlist -l bundle|grep HPUX11i
HPUX11i-OE-Ent B.11.11.0306 HP-UX Enterprise Operating Environment Component

HPUX11i-OE => HP-UX 11i v1 Foundation OE
HPUX11i-OE-Ent => HP-UX 11i v1 Enterprise OE
HPUX11i-OE-MC => HP-UX 11i v1 Mission Critical OE
HPUX11i-OE-MTOE => HP-UX 11i v1 Minimum Technical OE
HPUX11i-OE-TCOE => HP-UX 11i v1 Technical Computing OE

To upgrade, just run update-ux, :

/usr/sbin/update-ux -s /cdrom HPUX11i-OE-Ent

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

Well, I got home, mounted the install CDs, and ran the update-ux command to upgrade to Enterprise, but it didn't seem to take. It ran for about an hour or so, prompted me to change the CDs, and in the end I still get:

:> swlist -l bundle | grep -i oe
HPUX11i-OE B.11.11.0306 HP-UX 11i Operating Environment Component

I'm using June 2003 install CDs; what am I doing wrong?

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

The Enterprise OE MUST be bought separately. You do NOT automatically get the Enterprise OE with a machine.

The base OE is what you get if you have a support contract (say for version 11.0) and you order the new CDs. If you buy a new machine then you can add on the Enterprise OE at an additional cost.

Enterprise OE is NOT free.

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

Hi,
For simplified ordering and configuration, HP-UX 11i is available in five Operating Environments. Each consists of basic HP-UX functionality plus a collection of layered software products.
see:
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/os/11i/hpwoldfullpres.pdf

I'm assumming that you have the 11i Foundation OE which would not have the MirrorDisk-UX .
The MirrorDisk-UX product would be available on the 11i application CDs which you would require a codeword to unlock .

Hope the above helps,
Daxa

Where's the points, Matt???

Only 31 out of 180... That's a terrible average!!!

No points expected for this comment, just for all those folks that have been helpful to you.

Re: Where's my mirror/UX?

Mirror/UX is a priced product so you would not see it on your install CDs without as the codeword supplied by HP when you purchased the additional product(s). The various Operating Environments are marketing packages with extra software bundled in for convenience, so without the codewords, you'll see just the standard OS.
