SolutionReleases prior to HP-UX 11i v3 only support striped (RAID0) or mirrored (RAID1) logical volumes and do not support combination of striped and mirrored (RAID10) logical volumes. If a logical volume using simultaneous mirroring and striping is created on HP-UX 11i v3, attempts to import or activate its associated volume group fails on a previous HP-UX release.
To import the volume group with striped and mirrored logical volume to releases prior to HP-UX 11i v3, you must remove the incompatible logical volumes or reduce them to no mirrors.
Striped and mirrored logical volume is supported on HP-UX 11i v2 with the PHCO_36744, PHKL_36745 and PHCO_36746 patches. With these patches or superseding patches installed on a HP-UX 11i v2 system, you can successfully import and activate a volume group with striped and mirrored logical volume created on HP-UX 11i v3.

Re: Which RAID Levels supported by LVM
LVM v2 does not support disk sparing with regards to mirroring. That was where you had a disk as a designated spare for LVM volumes where a mirrored volume was on a disk that failed. The spare volume would then be synced with the volumes that were not mirrored.

Re: Which RAID Levels supported by LVM
RAID0, RAID1, RAID(0+1), I understand.
Does anyone have a simple table or diagram of the various RAID levels vs various OS version's, ....?
So there is no more confusion?

Re: Which RAID Levels supported by LVM
1 ) Mirroring RAID 1
2 ) Striping RAID 0
3 ) Striping + Mirroring ( 0 + 1 )with PVGS that is
with PVG strict & distributed striping
LVM polict ( -S g -D y)
Please have a simple diagram to clarify the architecture .
RAID 5 & RAID Mirroring + striping are supported on VXVM only !!

No, see my post above.
I think manix is referring to raid 1+0 and not raid 0+1. Both posts are right. :).
To add more clarity striped logical volumes that can be mirrored is supported in LVM disk partitioning approach (0+1) as part of LVM enhancements in 11iv3 (adding to torsten) and RAID 5 definitely not supported with LVM.
LVM v2 supports creation of upto 6 mirror copies as opposed to 3 on LVM v1.
