Re: Who is going to Orlando?

...no official word yet, other than that my boss doesn't like the timing. The weather better hold, cause I'll be cruising the Caribbean the week before this shin-dig.
Probably why my new boss isn't crazy about being gone 2 weeks....but I promised I'd take the laptop for this one.
So....I'm still keeping the positive view.

Hey...maybe with all the changes they'll have a need for speakers, since some of those folks may not make it.
Hold on to your presentation John, you never know.....(mine is on my laptop..)

Just sign me -

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Pete - I'll be there!

Actually, I'm staying at:

through a time share I own.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Cool, Geoff! We have a timeshare down there too, but I couldn't exchange in at such short notice.
http://www.vacationclub.com/resorts/cy/default.jsp
I could pay and stay but it's kind of pricey and I don't think the company would take very kindly to it. I'm going to wait until Friday and go with one of the official hotels that HP comes up with, I think.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Pete,

Mine is costing me any of my timeshare weeks...it's and added benefit by being a member with Interval International - they have "getaway" vacations - whereby you pay just a fee....in my case, I got a 2 bed suite for $599 for a week.

https://secure.intervalworld.com/web/cs?a=5

Membership is limited to owners at Interval-affiliated resorts.

I checked yours - and you are affiliated!

"Traveling on short notice? Through Flexchange, you can request a vacation exchange from 59 days to 24 hours before check-in. Go to www.intervalworld.com or call the Flexchange Hotline at 800-722-1747 for a listing of available destinations."

Your timeshare might have already signed you up - if not, I think the cost is $84 US for a year...but it has nice rewards - like the "Getaway Vacations" - that don't cost a lot and don't use your weeks.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Rita,

I actually had talked my way into the agenda for NO, (I'd be giveing the thing tomorrow evening...) so I am on the agenda for Orlando.

It took some talking through several layers, and they spend several days trying to find a spot for it.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Well, I still can't go, but I'll be praying for a cessation of killer storms -- the southeast needs a break! I wish you all a safe journey.

Maybe if they decide to hold this shin-dig in Schenectady some time...hmm...probably be easy to get lodging for that one, as attendance would be pretty sparse... ;)

Best Wishes to all,

Geoff,

You're right! I always forget about Interval except when it comes time to pay the bill! I'll check on it. Thanks.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

OK, HP finally update the hotel list but I'm at a loss as to where things are and where people are staying and where we should get together. Geoff is staying in a nearby timeshare. I'm in a timeshare 8 miles away - down by the Orlando Marriott World Center. I don't know about Rita and I'm not even sure if Jim is going at this point.

I'm open to suggestions folks.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Maybe we can get the moderators to change the topic from "New Orleans" to "Orlando"...

As far as a meeting place...

If you look on this map - I'm basically across the high way from the OCCC - where it says "Post Office"

https://www2.travelhq.com/registration/common/customhbframework/techforumorlando/hotelmap.htm

The "Courtyard Marriot Intl Drive" is fairly close...

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Just a note from a casual observer...

The HPCP hotels are a few miles from Convention Center - I haven't seen the "other" choices yet. If you plan to have a car, there are dozens of hotels available within 5 miles (I believe CC parking is $10 per day). There are half a dozen hotels within walking distance of the CC, but I'm sure they have very limited availability at this point.

There are a number of great deals out there - I found a $79 AAA rate at the Hawthorn Suites just a few miles from the CC (King Suite with full kitchen and daily hot breakfast).

Rita, no! Say it ain't so. It's beginning to look like it's down to John, Geoff, and Jil & I. This is most disappointing.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

OK, here's what I'm going to do. I was looking at the Orange County Convention Center site and noticed that there's a Peabody Hotel right in the middle of the complex:

http://www.occc.net/pdf/Map_OCCCparking.pdf

Checking out the Peabody site, they have a "Capriccio Bar":

http://www.peabodyorlando.com/dining/dining.cfm

I'm going to plant my tired butt in said Cappricio at 6:00 on Sunday, October 16th, if anyone cares to join me.

Unless someone comes up with a better idea, that is.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

I'm presenting the Ignite hands on lab, session 1817:
abstract:
This session focuses demonstrates advanced config file usage described in breakout 1156, Automatic HP-UX installs.
â ¢ Get a chance to ignite two target systems from an Ignite server â a PA target and an IPF target â and review network boot differences between the two.
â ¢ See a demonstration of the optical tools that are now shipped in Ignite.
â ¢ Work with make network recovery and make tape recovery.

Is there anything in particular you would like to see covered?

Michael,

I'll tell you when I see you at Capriccio's.

;^)

The one thing I'd like to see about Ignite is an announcement that make_tape_recovery will now work with VPars.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Speaking of reservations - is anyone looking to share a place? I have a 2 bedroom place (see above post) and my colleague who was going to go, can no longer make it.

Just thought I'd make the offer.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

I'll be going. I'll be there early Sunday already.

I filled a last minute speaker slot in the OpenVMS track.
ID # 2396. "RMS FDL Magic". Wednesday at 11
Right now it is not yet in the session catalogue. :-(.

Hope to run into several of the 'regulars'!
firstnameandlastname@gmail.com or call 603-557-5296 for a chat/beer.

btw 1... Found affordable accomodation in the Comfort-Suites next door through a NWA flight+hotel 'vacation' package.

btw 2... I'll be going as a free man, leaving HP the day before the show.
(there is life after HP I am assured ;-).

Regards,
Hein.

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Taking the EER, Hein?

I wish I could make it, but the timing isn't right. I'll be in Orlando three weeks later, though, for another HP function. Maybe some of the good vibes from HPWorld will still be floating around town...

I'm sorry I'm missing the chance to meet all of you!

Re: Who is going to Orlando?

Just in case anyone still needs a hotel or wants to change, I just saw a great deal from Travelzoo. They have a code for a $55 rate at the Doubletree Universal - this is walking distance from City Walk and the Universal entrance. Use corporate account #560075044 at the Hilton or Doubletree reservation site for this rate.
