whose printing on HPUX?

We have been using the old unsupported jetadmin stuff. What are people currently using to print to remote printers? Anybody have success/failure stories to share? I am looking specifically at 11.0 11.i type stuff...

Thanks

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

Why not just use the *new* and supported version of jetadmin - the HP Printer Installer...

(looks kinda familiar doesn't it!)

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

We are using jetadmin and it has been wonderful so far. I suppose it works as long as the printer is a HP printer and is supported.

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

Hi John,

The old Jetadmin software still runs fine in 11.0 and 11.11. I have also used the latest and greatest replacement and at least there is now a character based equivalent to the 'jetadmin' command so that you can add printers without using a browser. The new stuff is installed in another directory and if you have done a lot of customizations to your interface files, you will need to make those changes. I am still trying to understand why HP decided to fix something that wasn't broken.
There are a few new printers that are supported in the new but not in the old. I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and do the full transition myself soon. Obviously, you want to keep the same queue names so that your users/applications will never know the difference.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

Yes, we are running in 11.0, but I was wondering if people had problems, etc with the new, as we had not tried it yet. I guess I have decided that there is no reason not to upgrade to a 'supported' version if people really have not had problems with the new product...

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

I had tried to download and install yesterday, but something happened. (bad.) I have redownloaded and installed. You are right. It looks very similar to jetadmin.

Thanks

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

Hi,

I have setup 2 printers that are non hp printers (dot matrix) and 2 printers that are hp (laser) to a one port hp netport and a 3 port hp netport. It works like a dream. I have had no problems with it at all.

I did, however, have trouble setting the non-hp printer up without the netport, but once I added the netport it was fine.

I hope this helps. Version I am running is 10.05. So it might not be exactly what you were after.

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

Hi,

We have been using jetadmin for quite some time now and it has been ok so far. we haven't tried any other printer aside from an HP labeled. I guess it would also work so long as the printer is supported.

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

Hi John,

We're using the "new" hppi and don't have a problem with it. It reminds me of the jetadmin I used a couple of years ago on 10.01. I hadn't used jetadmin since then until earlier this year so I may not be comparing apples to oranges. hppi get's called from SAM or I can run it from command line. It's character based, menu driven, and works fine for us.

Of course I still download the Windows version of jetadmin because there's a lot of stuff I can see with it that I don't see in hppi but hppi is fine for adding jetdirect connected printers.

Re: whose printing on HPUX?

Hi,

We use a variety of different badged printers
particularly in our warehouses. We have tried
JetDirect cards, but some of the printers do
have difficulty, so we switched some of those
printers to 'axis' print servers and they work
quite well. The 'axis' print servers also
come with their own rendition of jetadmin.

My 2 cents worth
