Why is snmp version1 shipped and not version 2??

Why is snmp version1 shipped and not version 2??

Hi,
we are undergoing an internal security review at the moment and we have been asked to explain why version 1 of snmp is installed on our HP 11.11 boxes.(Version 2 or above has been recommended for security purposes) These machines are brand new and that is what they were shipped with so we are loathe to change that. Can we assume version 1 is HP's recommended version?? Are there any possible difficulties if we are required to upgrade to version 2 or above???
