Will HP-UX 10 be supported in the future?

Hi, everyone, I am new to this forum, do not know if the question is suitable for this category. Here is my question:

I've heard that HP will no longer support HP-UX 10, is that right? Should upgrade to 11 in order to get supported?

Thanks

Re: Will HP-UX 10 be supported in the future?

Hi,

That's not the case. I spoke to a HP rep today and I asked him this question. When an operating system release is announced to be obsolete it will be supported for a period of four years after this announcement. Seeing this anncouncement has not been made if you wish to upgrade to HPUX 11, you still have plenty of time!

Re: Will HP-UX 10 be supported in the future?

Hello,

All version 10 of HP/UX (10.01, 10.10, 10.20) will be supported until the 30th June 2003. Only 10.30 is not supported.

Re: Will HP-UX 10 be supported in the future?

Previous replies might want to double check with their resources.

HP support for 10.x will be ending as of June 2002.

After that time, HP will only offer "best effort" support on a time and material basis (which means no contractual support).

Letters have been sent out to customers stating such.

There will be no new patches or updates to the OS platform as the OS is considered "functionally stable."

It is recommended that you migrate to 11.X in the near future.

Re: Will HP-UX 10 be supported in the future?

Well, I just went to our Product Support Team and posed the issue with them.

In light of the posting of http://www.software.hp.com/HPUX-RDMP/history/slide2.html, the information (as of this writing) is accurate.

June 30, 2002 is the Discontinuance and the Obsolesence period begins.

Discontinuance means that the product is taken off of the Corporate Price Listing (CPL) and there will only be Critical, Business need patches distributed during this period. But, support will continue until the end of the obsolesence period (June 30, 2003).

Obsolesence means, no further patching patching and no standard, contractual support is available. The Response Centers will offer "Best Effort" support after June 30, 2003.

I hope that clarifies things for everyone (including me).

Re: Will HP-UX 10 be supported in the future?

As Ross mentioned, HP-UX 10.20 (and all versions of 10.xx) will be obsolete Jun 2002. This means that it will no longer be purchaseable and patches will be provided only for critical problems such as security.

Which begs the question: What do you mean by support (for 10.xx after June 2002)?

- If you mean: will HP continue to provide patches and/or enhancements, the answer is no. Indeed, the latest SupportPlus CDROM does not include a 10.20 version.

- If you mean: will HP support continue answer questions about 10.xx, the answer is yes. The difference between the obsolescence (from a manufacturing point of view) and support is that the Response Center can answer questions and provide workarounds but can't create patches.

The Response Center continues to answer questions about HP-UX 8.xx and 9.xx although the ability to accurately answer all these questions is not the same as supported versions of HP-UX, hence the term: best effort And the answer to a problem may be: upgrade to 11.11.

A good question to ask (as a comparison): are you still using Windows 95 in a production environment? HP-UX 10.20 is circa 1996 (that means old in computer terms). Even 11.0 is really old (Nov 1997).
