Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

I don't need a monkey...I need another me.

Clone me a few times, pay each of them what I make and we can all be happy.

Except for my wife, she can't be shared.
But then, how would she know unless she saw multiple's of me at the same time?

Now that you mention it...

I could get a monkey, train it, and run off with the circus! No more sys admin worries!

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

...don't own any, but I'm very familar with them...they are all around me here...

Do you rememeber the expression "Monkey see; monkey do"?

Over here when one of them starts pointing their finger at me the rest of them all jump in...many different breeds...accounting monkeys, finance monkeys, payroll monkeys, etc.

Thanks...I needed the break...

Hummm, own a monkey huh. Well, I'm not sure... what would a monkey do for me exactly. Are they like dogs content with being fed and given a little attention here and there? Are they affectionate? Do they eat a lot of bananas? I'll have to bring this one up at dinnertime and let you know what my kids say about this... I'll fill you in later.

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

It might be fun, but I don't like having pets that are smarter than I am. Of course, that narrows down my choices quite a bit! ;-)

Besides, I can see it now. Monday Night Football, or Animal Planet? Stupid monkey! Bring back that remote control!!

Did you mean Mon. key, defined as a key on your phone and/or keyboard that would put calls, problems or "opportunities" on hold until the following Monday? If so, I think that would be very neat!

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

Well, we have many here already. A fellow guy, last week, wrote a small script to periodically empty a bucket-directory, but forgot to mention the path of the directory. It RAN very WELL, removing all of /etc and part of /dev directories. After a very notorious downtime of 3 hours, I pulled everything back.

Now, today morning, he did that piece of magical scripting again, as he was "optimizing" it. It RAN well this time too, and I've been working on the results,->RESTORE from Ignite backups.

What perplexes me most is the question: Who is the monkey here??

Cheers,

Have you heard of the film "Multiplicity"?? Well we all know what happens when clones, clone each other we end up with a dumb one.... or would that be the monkey??

I guess you're having trouble with your (l)users and would like to train a monkey to reply to their questions?!

Well, I would love to have a monkey although size matters!!! I don't want a Donky Kong walking around in our delicate environment.

I would love to use the monkey to kick some members of this forum to assign points to the great contributions some people have!!!

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

Not one monkey....
Not two, or ten.........
But an infinite number of monkeys!!!
On an infinite number of consoles!!!

Forget 'Hamlet', I'd be happy if they'd write me a nice backup script.......

Jasper, do what I do.....

1. Read the question.
2. If you have an answer, check their profile
3. If more than 25 posts not given points post a polite message that you have an answer, but you are not posting it due to no points given
4. When the situation corrects itself, give the answer
5. Be damn sure you HAVE the answer

A monkey would nice to help assign points when you get so many answers to a post. Or maybe Dan can just make an assign all option.

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

I had a friend in high school who's grandmother had a monkey. It was dirty, smelly, and just plain mean. Hmmmm, now that I think of it, that pretty much explains me. I think I'm pretty cool. Following that logic, then yes, it most certainly would be cool to own a monkey.

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

I was just thinking, besides Dan's thread about issues about forums, is this the longest running thread?

Is there a way to find out which question/thread had the most replies?

Re: Wouldn't it be neat to own a monkey?

Sysadmin humor has over 100 threads last time I looked.
As for owning a monkey, it would beat the sharks I keep comming accross in the IT industry and some of the bird brains I have work with. As I spend some of my time monyeing around reading these forum threads , perhaps I am the monkey owned by the company.

You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals....

But then again, see no evil, hear no evil, (image of moneky with hands tied behind his back) type no evil. Unlike operators, users and the occasional auditor.

But a monkey as a pet? It would at least let me have a reason to build a cage around my workstation to keep the lusers out.... er... moneky in ;-)
