Writing to a CD

Does HP-UX 11.0 support CD writers? If so can I write to the device without 3rd party software? Can I just mount the CD and copy files to it or what? Can it be NFS mounted?

Thanks,

Mike

Ignite can create CD's. Here is the Ignite Guide.

Re: Writing to a CD

try man cdrom
or man cdfs

there may be a cd format you may like to change so that the files will be case kept..

ie turn off iso9660 compliance. The Nero software is good for windows and unix cross compatability with i9660 relaxed filesystem structure
It works for me (tm)

Re: Writing to a CD

Hi,

The HP software product Omnistorage allows you to create filesystems and write to them on multiple CDs inside a Jukebox.

Hope this helps. Regards.

With all that said- Officially HP does not support any CD writer.

Hi,

Use HP-supported Optical Jukeboxes. Omnistorage works fine with them.

Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: Writing to a CD

Just to clarify: Omnistorage writes to Magneto-Optical devices in a jukebox (changer) which are rewritable optical discs, not CD writable or CD rewritable discs.

To write CDs, you need a copy of cdrecord and mkisofs, both freeware and bundled into a package cdrtools and available from:

http://www.fokus.gmd.de/research/cc/glone/employees/joerg.schilling/private/cdrecord.html

The choice of CD writer is dependent on the ability of the crrecord program to talk succesfully to the drive (the website discusses the issues). As you will see, it is not a trivial task.
