X configuration

Hi all of you,

I have a question about X resources in my system. I have checked some ILOG windows are flickering sometimes (a very few times the application is falling down). I've been studying the question with Glance, and i noticed that memory usage is almost 100% ( always more than 90% ) and the system is swapping -> normal behaviour. Solutions:

- to buy more memory: NOT feasible
- to change the ILOG version: NOT feasible
- to configure the X clients ( X server?? ) to use in another way the X resources:

Is it possible to limit the amount of memory used by a particular application as netscape or ILOG applications?

Is it possible to use a different palette of colors to spend less memory?

Any comment will be welcome

Thanks in advance

Re: X configuration

I think only the developer of an application can at the design stage effect the amount of memory an application can use by efficient coding, memory allocation routines etc (I maybe wrong).

As to colours : netscape come with the -install options forcing it to use it's own colormap, other applications could and sometimes are designed in the same way ... I guess if your ilog application has a method/ command line switch you'd need to check with the vendor, I've not heard of one.

I presume your applications are running under CDE ...if so goto the style manager -> colors -> Number of colors : select more color to applications may help ? or go b&w that should cut it down but not ideal.

As to the Xservers memory -> Sam-> Xserver Config, select your card and take a look at the file descriptors and the graphics Shared memory size etc etc parameters they *may* help.

Also worth a look a read though Sam does it for you is looking at /etc/X11/X0screens
