x-terminal can't open file on server

hi,

i have two envizex2 which are connected to an HP-UX server running Netstations

Installed versions:
No ACTIVE_VERSION VERSION #
====================================================
1) yes B.07.11 (ENWARE SW)
2) no B.09.11 (Netstation SW)
====================================================

but the problem is this two terminal can't log in application server anymore ,from his log file ,it says 'can't open files on server '

do you have an idea of why this happened .

something that i dont' sure was:
1.if the ethernet was ok ,can i telnet to app server ? now i can see the mac address from server ,but it can't actually telnet to server
2.according to hp doc .
HP ENVIZEX II and HP ENTRIA II Netstations running HP Netstation Software 9.0. For information about these Netstations, see this book
why my active verion was b.07 instead of B.0.9
when i switched it to the new one ,it still say active one is old ?

Hi

Model II netstations need version 9 . The other is for the older netstations.

Power down and up and press and hold F12,util the config screen appears. which will allow you to reconfigure the Xterminal and point it to the correct file it needs to load

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

thanks steve,

actually ,i've configured the path to
/opt/hpxt/enware2/htmoe/ which lead to the B.09.11 .

But still got the same error ,

do you think ,if i set the ip address on setup of x-terminal ,then i can ping this address ? or telnet from it?

i wanna make sure the problem isn't reside in the LAN.

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

I'm not quite sure what your problem is here

Does the xterminal boot ? If yes does it connect via direct or indirect access to your server running the CDE/Xsession you require to connect to ?

Or are you just using the telnet terminal here ?

If it does not fully boot what stage does it get to: also try posting :

remsh get log and
remsh get config

from the server with the xterminal s/w installed on it.

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

sorry ,maybe i'm not being clear here ,

this two x-terminal were already connected to the same LAN as in Server . and i figure it boot up mornally..

but they always stop at reading the directives from server ,and from the logs ,it say it cann't open the file on server .

in fact i really wanna them to go to server with x-session ,i'm just wondering if the LAN is ok ,do you think i can also telnet ?
becase i never do that before ,

before it,they are both working fine after have been moved to another place.

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

I'm up to speed now ;-) So they fail to boot and have been moved ...

The hpux system with enware2 installed .. is there anything in terms of routers, hubs, firewalls, switches between it and the xterminals ... are they on the same subnet here ?

If not try one without having anything between hpux server and itself and on the same subnet : does this work. If yes might be patch levels though error normally relates to no cable found

remsh get log ? ? ?

start sam then xtadm : try removing then adding one of the xterminals, then via the config screen - factory default it and/or check all netwoking terminal settings are correct ... power cycle ?

also see the xtadm connectivity tests ?

remsh get config | grep remote ? would also be nice to see ... were you using a remote config file ?

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

hi,

they are in the same subnet ,and i'm stil wondering about how to check if it's ok .

if i set the ip address in terminal ,then it can telnet to server ?and ping from server?

currently ,i can only see the mac address from server ,no echo reply when ping terminal.

do you think it sounds like it's ok?

remsh all failed ,got nothing

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

Has anything, and I mean anything, been changed recently on the server?

Is bootp on the server configured to run, bootps line in /etc/inetd.conf? Is inetd logging into /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log and is there anything in there from bootp?

Is the Netstation software volume exported on the server, assuming you reach it via NFS. Look at /etc/exports file for a line containing /opt/hpxt.

Just a couple of quick suggestions as to other possibilities to look at.

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

really thanks all you guys .

i guess nothing have been changed on server side recently .

but actually ,the mac address was not same as in /etc/bootpad

so ,i'm thinking the problem might be in LAN ,and i will go on with checking about it tommorrow .

Hi,

it looks everything is fine except the ping

the hardware address on /etc/bootptab was not same as in the answer of 'arp -a' at first .

But still dose not working even when I changed it .

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

How about checking for duplicate IP's on the addresses the Xterminals should show up on? Not having to deal with network issues that much here so I am not sure how that would be seen in the ping attempt.

Not sure how to check the switch, except possibly replace the Xterminal with a PC at the Xterminla's IP address and check connectivity that way.

Other possibilities:

Make sure that the directory that holds the configuration files for the Xterminal (*.cfg) is on the /opt Lvol. I.e., can that specific directory be seen if the Xterminals mounts /opt/. On my system it is not /opt that is exported but /opt/hpxt.

Check permissions to the cfg file also, inure that it is visable to the Xterminal.

Something has to have changed since the terminals ar eno longer connecting. Since it happened to two of the, I assume at the same time, it probably should not be the hardware on the Xterminals side.

Re: x-terminal can't open file on server

hi, thanks everyome.

really appreicate for what you have told me .

problem has been solved this afternoon

it's a little awkward that the problem was truely casued by LAN ,cause our customer moved the box to another place and the pluged the cable into the wrong port .

afterwards ,thers is a really tiny problem about file permession of fonts.dir

anyway .so thanks for your response ...
