XPG (X/Open Portability Guide) is a standard that defines the interfaces of the X/Open Common Application environment based on POSIX and C. Then XPG 1,2,3 and 4 are just the versions of the standard or document. Also ake a look at a previous thread that I had a link to an article about UNIX95 (which is basically XPG4 command set).
