zombies

Hi,
I want a consultation about the processes "zombies" when I run the top command. These processes are with STATE "zomb", SIZE 0k and COMMAND "gosh". Are they damaging and how can I stop them, because the kill command doesn't kill them.

Re: zombies

Hi,
Zombie, it's a special stat of process in Unix, in this the parent of process is not exisist and init is not able to clam ownership.

only reboot can kill these processes

Re: zombies

I am sorry so the only way to kill the Zombies process is rebooting the machine, because some of them are directly to init and there are not other way to free them.

I hope this help you.
