broadcom nic driver problem on RHEL 3 / DL 380 G5

We're having a problem where an application sending large amounts of data FROM a particular address back to itself eventually hangs.
A netstat -tan shows the Send-Q is very large and data isn't moving.
It's an intermittent problem and we cannot duplicate it on a regular basis.
What I NOW have been asked to do is to find a repeatable test case that breaks the bnx2-1.4.52d-1 driver due to excessive data being passed.
Does anyone know the best method for this?

I've been told the bnx driver is the NEWEST driver supported by HP for this RHEL version and kernel version so we cannot upgrade the driver.
