My System ist a xw8600 with Red Hat Linux 5 with Workstation Option. It has a da HP DVD-ROM SATA Drive and a HP DVD+/-RW SuperMulti SATA Drive.
The ROM-Drive can read CD's but not DVD. It says there is no media by executing a mount command and using a DVD. CD' are automatically mounted.
The DVD-RW-Drive works fine with both CD and DVD. What might be the reason for this. Driver Problem or Hardware Malfunction?

Shalom,
More than likely the driver for this ROM drive chosen by Linux doesn't fully support the hardware.
The best way to go is see if there is a better hardware driver from the manufacturer. Also using Red Hat 5 update 2 might help.
