FC4 fails to detect the ethernet nics on DL320 G4

I installed FC4 on dl320 g4 servers and it fails to detect the nics. It incorrectly detects a broadcom device. and fails to connect even with the cable on. Where can I find the correct drivers for the NC325i nic in the server and possible steps to install it.

I need FC4 as thats the OS version that supports the mods I am interested in.

Thanks,
Puneet.

Not entirely certain what chips are used there, but perhaps lspci will give the main vendor/product information and one can go from there.

Sometimes a web search - say "NC325i site:hp.com" can be helpful if say clicking on "software and driver downloads" off of www.hp.com and giving the product name provides no joy.

Thanks. Seems installing bcm5700 driver from hp.com does the trick.

Hmm, if bcm5700 claims them, then perhaps tg3 should claim them as well. The bcm5700 driver has been on its way out in Linuxland for some time now since Broadcom put its support behind the tg3 driver.

Re: FC4 fails to detect the ethernet nics on DL320 G4

Actually tg3 did claim it, or atleast the default installation did do that.

There were two problems:
*) Only one interface was being detected.
*) tg3 wasn't working fine, not even being able to detect that the cable was plugged in or not.

With bcm5700 (which wasn't the part of FC4 installation) it seems to detect the interfaces (though as unknown kind) and seems to work ok.

I also have to change the /etc/modprobe.conf to force eth# to use bcm5700.

There is also a tg3 driver available from hp.com that might work, haven't tried that.

Re: FC4 fails to detect the ethernet nics on DL320 G4

I would suggest trying the tg3 driver from HP before tossing-in the towel and remaining on bcm5700.

I'm not sure where a DL320 G4 is in the lineage - I'm more from the Integrity side of the house and the lack of lockstep in the GN designations on the ProLiants makes my head spin, but keep in mind that newer versions of the systems are likely to be "unsupported" on older versions of software. Not that "support" (in HPSpeak terms) is much of an issue when FCN is involved I suppose (unless I've recalled that incorrectly) but still something to keep in mind.
