I need to install Red Hat EL 4.0 on two DL585 servers.
I was expecting that the delivered SmartStart 7.3 would support it... But they don't!
How is the Linux installation supported on that server?
Any help/suggestion is welcome.
TIA,
Rui.

Re: How to install RHEL 4.0 on DL585
I would also have expected a CD to be delivered with that machine.
As far as I know disk preparation is still needed. The features may be built into the bios, or you may be expected to download and creaate the smart cd yourself.

Re: How to install RHEL 4.0 on DL585
Thanks for your reply. SmartStart 7.3 was delivered but it does not support RHEL 4.0 for that server...
The SmartStart SmartStart CD Server Support Matrix does not clearly state which OSs are supported for the DL585:

SolutionAll options can be configured through the BIOS and RAID BIOS, including the container configuration.
After that, the install media for RHEL4 will do the work. At worst, you may need to download drivers from the HP website, but I doubt it.
You should however get the support pack once the OS is installed.

Re: How to install RHEL 4.0 on DL585
Try RHEL 4.0 update 3 and it will detect the HW.
Cheers

Re: How to install RHEL 4.0 on DL585
To install RHEL4 on the DL585, just follow the Red Hat instructions for installing the OS. If the version of the RHEL4 that you are using does not contain a driver for the primary disk controller, you may then 'punchout' a Driver Update Diskette from the SS CD, and use it.
The DUD is used by booting the system from the RHEL4 CD #1, and at the prompt enter:
linux dd
The RedHat installation process will then instruct you as to when to insert the DUD.
Hope this helps.
