how to make recovery CD (or diskette?)

I just installed Fedora Core 4 (kernel 2.6).
What's the procedure for making a recovery CD
(or diskette)? Ie, something I can boot and
access my file systems, in case I screw up when
I do my kernel recompile.

Thanks in advance.

Re: how to make recovery CD (or diskette?)

insert floppy and run
mkbootdisk `uname -r`

you can also use the first installation cd.
Boot from it and type linux rescue as argument.

Or use a knoppix cd (or one of the many rescue cd's) have allok at the following.

Re: how to make recovery CD (or diskette?)

Thanks - good answers!
The install disk and Knoppix disk work fine.

However the diskette didn't work - mkboot floppy doesn't think my 1.44 meg diskette is big enough.

Is mkbootfloppy really still a viable option for diskettes? Or is it expecting a USB memory stick (or something with > 1.44 meg)?

Thanks.

You can download rescue CD for FC4,
