HT Kernel ...

All,
I am trying to compile 2.4.20 kernel with Hyperthreading turned on, but I do not see any options in "menuconfig" for hyperthreading. Perchance, does any one know where it is located in "menuconfig"? Thanks.

Re: HT Kernel ...

AFAIK,

SMP support is enough for hyperthreading,

you can disable HT support in the boot time by "noht" option

Re: HT Kernel ...

Thanks. I will have to tried that out. I've compiled kernel v. 2.4.18 with smp option on two xeon processor, but it does not show 4 on top. I will have to see if 2.4.20 works. Thanks.

Re: HT Kernel ...

My experience with HT...is on RedHat (7.1)

I need to "enable HT" from BIOS.
I just installed RH 2.4.9-34 binary. That's all.
I didn't compile the kernel by myself.

Re: HT Kernel ...

Does any know what is the earliest kernel version which supports HT? Thanks.

Re: HT Kernel ...

1) of course, you have to enable HT in the BIOS

2) AFAIK, we have *good* HT support starting from 2.4.18.

Re: HT Kernel ...

Vitally,
then how come when I turned on HT at the BIOS level, I did not see 4 cpu on the system (system has 2 xeon 2.x GHZ cpu). The system is running RH with upgraded smp kernel version 2.4.18. Note, when I compiled the kernel, the HT option was disable at the BIOS level. Could this have affected the kernel? Thanks.
