IBM p-690 DLPAR..info required!!

Hello gurus,
we would be soon migrating from SUN (fire) machine to new IBM p-690 server.

I want to know about Dynamic Logical Partitioning feature in detail.

I need to know its implementation, implication & what
is the role of system administrator in using DLPAR.

I have referred www.ibm.com & few other ,but i need to know more details about DLPAR.

Thanks & Regards

Re: IBM p-690 DLPAR..info required!!

In short:

All P650/70/90's are controlled externally from a Linux pc known as the HMC. The HMC talks to a hypervisor that controls all the hardware resources, and can control how they are distributed to form Logical partitions (LPAR). The dynamic bit comes in because it is possible for partitions to give and receive hardware resources, and to reboot, and be rebuilt independantly of one another. LPARs can also have different OS's on them, e.g. Unix.
The HMC controls all this through a GUI that tals to the global firmware and the hypervisor card.

This is a very advanced concept and from my personal experience goes beyond what Sun provides.
