Which NIC is it? It sounds to me that the card is not being left in a sane state when the interface is bought down. I would suggest that you try a more recent kernel if it has a later driver revision for your card.

Re: NIC error with Redhat 8.0 on Proliant 3000

I have a similar problem with Proliant DL380 G3, NIC NC7781 and SuSE Linux 8.2.
After soft reset the NIC does not have a MAC address. In BIOS this NIC is shown as not configured. Thats why the server is unreachable in network. After hard reset everything works fine.
Any idea why MAC is lost?

Re: NIC error with Redhat 8.0 on Proliant 3000

Well, I have troubles too.

Installation of RedHat 8.0 is a piece of cake, but RedHat hangs when I reboot.

All goes fine until the "bringing up interface eth0" message and then it hangs.

NIC is a realtek 8139c, processor a Pentium II 450 and the system has 896 MB ram.

BIOS version P09.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
