							Oracle 9i on RH 7.3:

						Hi everyone!
I finally successfully installed Oracle 9i on RedHat 7.3. However, I do not see any GUI for Oracle. I can access the database fine from the console, but there are no tools like SQLPLUS Worksheet, Net Assistant, Storage manager, or DBA studio. All these features are available in Oracle's version for windows, and I am thinking these tools should also be available for Linux version. If someone can provide feedback I will really appreciate it. Thank you.

						Hi there.
you have to install Client software for the GUI tools. The other tools should be in
$ORACLE_HOME/bin.
You can use the GUI tools from MS WINxx,
if you install the client software and do the network setup.

Oracle 8 and 9 database and ias will only install with X-Windows.
You can run it on the server, or you can run it from your Wintel box, if you can figure out how to modify Linux to get it to accept X logins from IP's other than itself.
I think it was arrogant of Oracle to take out the script based install, but they wanted to cut support costs.
No GUI no Oracle. There are other complications with Linux as well, which is not supported as nicely as Windows,Sun and HP-UX.
You need to get an installation guide from either metalink.oracle.com (support agreement required) or otn.oracle.com (registration required)

Actually all I had to do was at the prompt type in,
"oemapp worksheet"
I did not need to install anything new. I can access other tools as well. If you type in
oemapp
then it tells you what tools you can access. But thanks for providing feedback...& for that you all get points! :-)
