Red Hat Advanced Server on a CL380

Does anyone have experience of installing Red Hat Advanced Server on a Compaq CL380?
I have tried installing, but have not managed to get the machines to see the shared disk array so that I can install / configure clustering.
Any help, how-to's etc would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Red Hat Advanced Server on a CL380

I'm assuming you've checked that the machine is certified.

You may need to follow a two step process.

1) Install the OS.
2) Install extra drivers to handle your disk array and the SCSI device that connects to it, if its not on the certified hardware list.

After install, check the hardware probe GUI program.

You might want to tell us the name and model number of the card you use to connect to the disk array.

I don't have experience with that particular machine, but I do have disk array experience and little can be done for you until you provice more detailed information.

Re: Red Hat Advanced Server on a CL380

Based on the age of the CL380, I doubt it is certified. Double check this as you won't get any help from RedHat or HP if it isn't.

That said, it sound like you do have AS running but the only problem (so far) is that you can't "see" the shared storage. There are a LOT of possible problems that are HW, FW, cabling related.

Assuming that you are using SCSI -

1. Make sure that the SCSI IDs don't conflict. Generally you want one HBA to be at 7 and the other to be at 6 - but make sure that not disks conflict. Watch the HBA BIOS as some with list the other SCSI IDs that are detected.
2. Check termination - again there are a number of possible problems here.
3. See of you can get one system to recognize the shared storage without the other even connected. Adjust the termination for the fact that there is only one server. Don't even try to hook it up as shared until you get to this point.

These are just 3 things to look at/try. If these don't help then I'd recommend that you post a DETAILED description of the HW, cabling, termination, and FW.

Re: Red Hat Advanced Server on a CL380

Problem solved for the time being. I had to get into the array controller configuration to set up the disk sets. I was expecting to do this via an OS tool, but Linux doesn't have one.

Thanks for everyones help.
