Re: RH9/ Fedora
Fedora (RH10) is no longer supported by RedHat, is the free version of Red Hat.
Now Redhat has Red Hat Advanced Server with full support.
I think (not sure) HP will support Advanced Server but not Fedora.
Frank.

Re: RH9/ Fedora
Fedora is a new free distribution born from Redhat, and it is your natural upgrade for your RH9 installations.
I upgraded some rpm packages of my RH9 using Fedora Core 1 CDs. It works fine.
Maybe it could be a good idea for you to re-install using Fedora if you have just set up your linex boxes.
Ciao

Re: RH9/ Fedora
I think that, now, you can think about Fedora like RH10.

Re: RH9/ Fedora
For samba and apache + particular hardware I think you could upgrade them from rpm because fedora tools may be not integrable with HP Proliant Support PAck.
If you have uncertified hardware upgrade to Fedora by cd/dvd and enjoy (i found anyway that fedora tools for sysmgmt are not so stable...)
Peace, R.

Re: RH9/ Fedora
There is no RH Linux 10; you can see Fedora Project as replacement for RH Linux. [for now we have Fedora Core 2 test 2, release will be released soon].
I recommend you RHEL for production enviroment because:
- RHEL is sertificed against major HW [IBM/HP/Dell] and SW [Oracle, etc...] vendors
- RHEL is supported for 5 years and RHL/Fedora for only 1 year
See http://www.redhat.com/software/rhelorfedora/ for Fedora vs. RHEL table.

Re: RH9/ Fedora
The installations are so alike that you can forget what you are installing. The technology gets tested in Fedora and then it magically finds its way into the Red Hat supported versions.
Its not like running beta code. Fedora Core 1 is Red Hat 10 under another name. My opinion. It is production code.

Solutionit all depends on your needs ;-) Redhat 9 came for free and if you want to stay with that cost model your upgrade path is Fedora, which is the successor to the free Redhat offerings (see http://fedora.redhat.com/ ) . You still can report bugs and problems via a community process, but there are no guranteed response/fixit times. If you do need support from Redhat, buy one of their Enterprise Linux products (see http://www.redhat.com/software/ , which also has a link to a discussion of which of Fedora or ES is "right" for you). If you need support from hp, you are stuck with whatever they are willing to go with.
Greetings, Martin

Re: RH9/ Fedora
For those who want to stay with a RH 8.0 and RH 9.0 up to date, the company Progeny offering a software updates support for Redhat distributions through 2005
The price to get the updates is not really expensive (5$/machine or 2500$ unlimited machines).
