SDLT Tape drive plugged into external SCSI on DL380 running Redhat AS 3.0 update 4

I wondered if anyone can help with this:

I have plugged in Compaq SDLT 110/220 into the external scsi port on a DL380-G4 running Redhat AS 3.0 update 4. I can see the tape drive from the boot level but Redhat does not see it.
cat /proc/scsi/scsi show no devices attached.

Thanks
Caspar

Hi Casper,

try this script to scan all your scsi bus.

http://www.garloff.de/kurt/linux/rescan-scsi-bus.sh

Download the script to an empty directory. It's important that does not have any other file on that directory when you run the script (don't ask me why, please).

I run it that way :
#./rescan-scsi-bus -l -w -c --nooptscan

If it solves your problem you will have to run this script on boot time, every boot.

xyko,

Thanks for the reply. I have tried your script but it still finds no devices. I have even put a new SCSi card in (just in case the inbuilt one does not support tapes) and I get the same problem even though the tape drive is seen at BIOS level.
Redhat sees the new SCSI card but I get nothing in /proc/scsi/scsi.

Thanks

I have fixed this problem using redhat knowledge base article.
