Whoa!

I made it. Hung out at 990 so long I planned lots of detailed posts for the weekend, planning for a Monday entry into Linux Hogwarts.

The forth Linux wizard. Wow. First points anywhere August 2, 2002.

I've got the firebolt broom and my potions kit, and I'm tryinig to figure out what Snape is really up to.

I will continue to work hard, be in awe of Stuart Brown and all above me, and try continually to expand my knowledge and improve the quality of my posts.

But you know, this thread reminds me of 'Seinfeld' episode.

(* With 300 people in the office there's usually a birthday and birthday cake somewhere in the office everyday. Pretty soon the office workers become sugar junkies always looking for more birthday cake and they can't get enough. So the office workers start inventing reasons to have more and more birthday cake. There's cake when Elaine returns from a sick day and birthday cake when a co-worker gets fired and birthday cake for office promotions and birthday cake for every mundane office incident in their lives. Pretty soon the birthday cake takes over and people forget about the important stuff, like becoming a wizard or a Pharaoh, I mean, birthdays.

The moral of this 'Seinfeld' episode? Don't let the cake take over because, well, lets concentrate on our birthdays and not invent reasons to accumulate points. *)

Though some call me a Guru, I'm really just a muggle that works hard trying to make those machines do their magic.

I've finally got a D320 server in the basement and it survived shipment in my SUV!!!!!

Going to be finishing configuration on that over the time ahead. Might even venture to tray a palinux install some day.

Stuart, the intent on my part is not to catch up, I just enjoy the challenge, this forum forces me to learn so I can help.

No matter what the point totals say, it should be obvious that you use Linux every day, your knowledge is vast. I've learned a lot from you.

I've even been guitly of cutting and pasting out of one of your old posts(while adding my own extra explanation and commentary), when you didn't post in with an answer.

Hope the winter is not too bad down there. The summer is certainly enjoyable here.

Stuart --> ditto of what SEP told. I just enjoy working on linux and this forum gives a way to provide something back to the community. The pointing system adds some spice to it by challenging you to make the response faster. that's it. u continue to be the undisputed king of this forum and I guess you were one of the old timers who continue on this forum. Used to see a few names on this top list but most of them arent around now, guess. Keep up the good work and we will follow you.

*blink* oh yea.. that R.. My mental image of your name these days is just SEP, with an Egyptian head-dress.. ;P

I have the same thoughts about myself with regards to 'guru'ship.. I just happen to know a bit to help some people. My mother doesn't help in that regard, telling all her friends about her son.. blech.. mom's perogative I guess..

HPUX.. We've got an old Apollo workstation floating around in our storeroom here.. I might dig it out for a play.. maybe..

The availing myself of new opportunities, and experiences I wouldn't normally get is also why I float around here, and in a few other 'help' areas. I'm most definately not made of money, and the company I work for only does very specific things, so I look for challenges. Digging up research material, applying knowledge I've used in other areas to help solve problem is what gets me by..

Admittadly, holiday's and me don't mix well.. I can't let myself be idle for such lengths of time.

Whilst (I admit) I do like getting the rewarded points for an answer, the challenge in getting the answer in the frist place is what drives me more..

I do use Linux every day (and have done so for atleast the past 6 years), I to am learning every day.

*pout* but I wanna learn about SAN's *pout* Ah well :) Mebbe one day.

Winter: Aircondition/Heated office. Outside is a balmy 16c degrees, and blowing hard enough to make it hard to steer straight (let alone not leave the lane on a Motor-bike!).

NOTE: I justed notced that SEP, Balaji and myself somehow got an injection of 60 pts (not sure who else). Anybody know where they are from? I can't find the offending post.

SEP, It helps to start such threads once in a while. may be now when we run Merjin's script for the Linux forum, the point assignment ration must have shot up i guess.

Merjin's scripts to analyse the forums stats are written in Perl, and are thus pretty much platform independant.

I was reading through his page and there's alot of talk about binaries for HPUX, but he's referencing alot of GNU utils and 'binutils', not the forum stats gathering routines.

Simply put, I got confused.. ;)
