Setting COFIG_IP_ALIAS for failover

Hi,
We are planning to setup cluster failover. For the same we need to enable IP aliasing in the kernel by setting the COFIG_IP_ALIAS option to yes.

How can i enable the same.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Setting COFIG_IP_ALIAS for failover

You have to recompile your kernel.
Look at recompile guide here, it's redhat based, but process is the same for all distros :

Re: Setting COFIG_IP_ALIAS for failover

Just wondering, what distribution are you using that it isn't already compiled in?

Most, if not all pre-compiled distributions have this set to Yes already.

Infact, what kernel are you using that even has that option any more?

With the introduction of the 'ip2' stack (in the laste 2.2 kernels), the 'Alias' option on interfaces has just been there. The way the kernel talks to the physical devices changed.
