Re: Storagework DAT72
Ok, lets check some things.
This tape drive is internal or external?
it's attached to a SCSI bus, so when the machine boots, are you seeing the tape drive listed? If so, what SCSI ID?
What hardware is this tape drive attached too? What sort of server, what sort of SCSI controller?
If it is plugged in correctly, and the SCSI BIOS detects it, what do the contents of '/proc/scsi/scsi' give you?
Is the 'st' module inserted?
Some things to look at.

Re: Storagework DAT72
- After installation of all the last rpms : cciss drivers ..., you get in the /etc/modules.conf the two following lines :
alias scsi_hostadapter cciss
alias scsi_hostadapter1 cciss
The second line should be removed.
- The image should be recreated :
mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd-`uname -r`.img `uname -r`
- Now the tricky thing, you should enable scsi in the cciss driver you have to modify the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local as followed to do it:
# cat /etc/rc.d/rc.local
#!/bin/sh
#
# This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.
for x in /proc/driver/cciss/cciss[0-9]*
do
echo "engage scsi" > $x
done
touch /var/lock/subsys/local
- Reboot the system
- After the reboot try :
tar tvf /dev/st0
You should get a message which says no media in the tape drive.
