Hi,
I am using tape drive on red hat 6.1 but when i reboot the system , it gives the i/o error

I'm wondering if the device is installed corrrectly.
Does it have power?
Have you possibily overwritten the device files with regular files. That might be the cause of your error message.
RedHat 6.x has enough hardware probe tools to let you run basic tests.
Also, is the cabling solid? Is it an IDE drive?
Details will help the real Linux wizzes help you.
