Telnet is dead slow

Hi,
Just upgraded an A500 Server with 11iv2 Dec 2007. I can connect to the GSP console via network without any problem. However if I try to connect to the lan0 or lan1 interfaces it takes a real time to give the login prompt. The following output is displayed on screen immediately though->

$ telnet odin-hp.blah.com
Trying 128.98.172.234...
Connected to odin-hp.blah.com.
Escape character is '^]'.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Mukul

This sounds to me more like HP-UX than Linux.
Wrong forum?

The usual explanation for a 30-second pause
here is a DNS problem, when odin-hp.blah.com
attempts to do a (reverse) look-up on the
address of the (unspecified) system from
which you're trying to connect.

An HP-UX forum search for things like
Telnet delay
should find ample old threads with various
practical suggestions.

Re: Telnet is dead slow

It certainly doesn't work from here ...

alp $ nsl 128.98.172.234
Server: alp-l.antinode.org
Address: 10.0.0.9

*** alp-l.antinode.org can't find 128.98.172.234: Non-existent host/domain

... but it might be easier to get a good
result in your neighborhood.
