howto not accept mails to the not legitimate users on MS Exchange 5.5 ?

hi

we have MS Exchange 5.5 running on WIN NT 4.0 sp6a

the following problem:
we are getting dailly in the postmaster inbox tousends of mails to the not existing users.
our Exchange must be setuped to accept all incoming email, regardless of whether there is a legitimate user for it.
howto disable this feature on the smtp side of the Exchange server ?

kind regards
chris

Re: howto not accept mails to the not legitimate users on MS Exchange 5.5 ?

AFAIK, you cannot do that with Exchange 5.5.
Only exchange 2003 have "Filter recipients who are not in the Directory" option.

Of course, you can use some 3-th party tools, for example:
http://www.policypatrol.com/PolicyPatrolSpamFilter.htm#Address_verification

No freeware tools exists, therefore moving to exchange 2003 will be good option (especially because exchange 5.5 and nt4 are not supported....)
