i lost my tape backup history can't restore

dear all
i lost my tape backup history or catalogue and now i can't restore out of my tapes.because in windows you have to define which backup record you want to restore which i don't have; is there any way to recreat the cataloge or the history out of the tape so i can restore data out of it.
i use windows 2000 server backup software and an HP DLT VS 80 with 40/80 tapes.
please help

You should be able to recover/retrieve the catalog from the tape media. This statement is from WINXP Pro Backup Help but it should be similar to WIN2K:

"You can restore a catalog for a file or a tape by clicking the Restore tab, right-clicking File or the tape you want to catalog, and then clicking Catalog file or Catalog. For more information about creating a catalog, click Related Topics."

Try looking in NTBACKUP help under 'catalog' for a solution.
