Install Active Desktop after IE5 (without IE4)
I want to install Active Desktop onto an NT Workstation(mainly for the new
taskbar features). I never had IE4 on the workstation - I went straight to
IE5. According to Microsoft's site, the only way to do this is to uninstall
IE5 then install IE4, then re-install IE5 again.
Does anyone know a way around this (for obvious reasons) ????

Re: Install Active Desktop after IE5 (without IE4)
Yes, that is the only way to get the Active Desktop if you install a "fresh"
copy of IE5. Here are the exact steps:
Installing or Upgrading the Windows Desktop Update
--------------------------------------------------
To install or upgrade the Windows Desktop Update, you must install Internet
Explorer 4.01 SP1 before you install Internet Explorer 5.
If you have already installed Internet Explorer 5 and would like to install the
Windows Desktop Update, carry out the following steps:
1. Uninstall Internet Explorer 5.
2. If Internet Explorer 4.01 SP1 is not already installed on your computer,
install it.
3. Install the Windows Desktop Update.
4. Reinstall Internet Explorer 5.
Unfortunately, there is no way to get AD with a fresh install of IE5.
If you're running IE 5.01, it's the same scenario, but you will need to start
with IE 4.01 SP2 in step 2 above.
