Restore of Server 2008 Std 32 on Hyper-V VM

We had a change of plans on a development environment with Server2008 Std 32bit running SQL2008. After this was setup, a decision was made to then set the system up with hyper-v and running the sql2008 environment virtually (just for development mind you). I setup a Server2k/SQL7 vm with no issues, but I want to restore the Server2008/SQL2008 that was originally setup.
When doing this I was abble to create the vhd from the previous install. When boot I get a scren that complains about different hardware (no surprise) and to repair from the install media. The instll media I originally used was 32bit HP branded Server2008 STD. It complained that this media was not supported on the vm platform. I then downloaded Server2008Std from MS and used that media. The vm didd boot of that, but erros on repair of the installed OS. I am getting 7B stop errors on boot. Anyone had experience moving a HP server install to a vm?
