Slow System

I have someone who's computer is acting real slow. They use AV,Spybot and Adaware. It is a newer system so told them to run Hijackthis.
Anyone have any help to offer?
Thanks
He said that he uninstalled Norton not to long ago but is not sure if that would be the reason. he is using Trend AV now.

Re: Slow System

Are we talking slow to respond or slow to surf?

He didn't quite get all of Norton out of it:

O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file)

The above two can be checked and Fix Checked by HijackThis.

I do not see anything that is really malware but I am not familiar with the Giant stuff.

You might use msconfig to see if any of the programs are causing a slow down.

There have been reports of SP2 causing slowdowns.

Since you have Zone Alarm running you might want to make sure the XP Firewall is turned off.

Do you see any errors in the Event Viewer?

Does Task Manager show System Idle Process with over 95% of CPU time? If not what is using the CPU time?

Re: Slow System

Hi ,
these adware say the they dont install extra components,
but they do that
u can very well see the performance down if u have installed that,..
use spydoctor professional,
dont go by the words of the manufacturer & freeware,
freeware will always have some performance issue,
i hope u will get what i meant :)

Re: Slow System

The system had many antispyware, antivirus and system protection things running.
Lowering the amount of these helped a little.
Thanks for the ideas.
