Win2008r2 BSOD with UDF formatted USB memory stick containing 2k8r2.

My 2008r2 systems do not recognize the USB stick used to install said Win2008r2 system. Device not recognized.

My 2008r2 system with the windows 7 desktop option (i understand it does stuff to burn cds) will BSOD. The screen flickers several times and then will Blue Screen of Death. Stop Error.

On a non production system, have you tried inserting the usb memory used to install windows?

Fedora 13 on other HPDL380g4's has no problem reading the USB key.

HPDL380g4 with CD drives only, so i could not use the huge iso downloaded from microsoft. i copied the ISO to a 4GB memory stick to use as the windows medium. Probably used the HPUSBKEY program, but i do not remember how i made it.

Re: Win2008r2 BSOD with UDF formatted USB memory stick containing 2k8r2.

More details:

On a HPDL380g4, inserting a USB thumb drive key did this to me on 2008R2. Interestingly enough, this USB key is formatted with the UDF filesystem but Win2008R2 says i need to format the drive to make it readable. Linux has no problem with and indeed was used by HP SmartStart 8.50 to do the initial installation of Win2008R2. Same exact usb thumbdrive was used to to install this system.

So i am disappointed the Win32 subsystem of a 64bit kernel can crash my domain controller. Clearly, MSKB 975617 indicates that there have been many problems with UDF filesystems writing - it must not have been tested.

Again, no problem with my Linux systems on the same hardware so don't see how it would be a USB subsystem problem.
