Windows 2022 install hang - black HPE screen

I don't do very many bare metal installs of Windows, but this one is giving me a heck of a time.  I'm trying to install Windows server on a BL460c Gen9 blade.  Not the latest, sure, but still supported.

Installation goes through, and after the first reboot, it hangs on the black Hewlett Packard Enterprise screen.  It's very similar to the problem documented here .   The resolution is to slipstream Windows patches, but I've tried both a 2022 and 2019 iso with the same result, both of which were released after the documented 2016 version.

Installation has been attempted via Intelligent Provisioning and directly booting from .iso.

UEFI enabled.

Secure boot enabled.

Installation media is .iso attached via ilo.

Target disk is attached FC san storage.

Boot from SAN is configured.

Re: Windows 2022 install hang - black HPE screen

Hello,

Please make sure the firmware of the server is up to date.

Perform a complete power cycle (remove the power cables completely , press the power button for 20 seconds, reconnect the cables ) and test it again.

You might also run offline diagnostics to check the hw related issues if any.

Thanks,

TAM
