Can't get >>> prompt on console for ES45 server

We have incorrectly set the wwid0 parameter on our ES45 server which caused the server to crash.

set the wwid to the following

set wwid0 10 WWID:01000010:6005-08b4-0010-5a9d-0000-9000-0305-0000

Now we are unable to get a >>> prompt as the server continually crashes during power up with (ev_fc_init) error, these errors are continous and we can't break out of it.

Re: Can't get >>> prompt on console for ES45 server

Rick,

you may be able to get to the console using the Failsafe Loader see:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/alphaserver/firmware/current_platforms/v7.3_release/DOC/es45_v73_fw_relnote.pdf

This would also be a good time to update the console firmware, if you are not already up to date!

Otherwise, I would suggest removing your FC HBAs before power up.

Push the halt button in? The circle with the upside down triangle in it. That doesn't halt the system? Leave it in and power down/up. It should say something to the effect it can't start because the halt button is in and should leave you at the SRM prompt.

ES45 user manual:

Re: Can't get >>> prompt on console for ES45 server

Page 1-10 has a picture of the OCP and page 1-11 says:

Halt button. Halts the system and returns to the SRM console.
If the Halt button is latched when the system is reset or powered up, the
system halts in the SRM console. Systems that are configured to autoboot
cannot boot until the Halt button is unlatched.

Re: Can't get >>> prompt on console for ES45 server

Sometimes will interrupt the console code execution and get you to a >>> prompt.

What happens if you pull out the FC HBAs - can you bring the machine up then, clear the WWIDs and then put the FC HBAs back afterwards?

Out of interest, why do you need to "set wwid..." manually - why not just use WWIDMGR?

Cheers, Colin.
