DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

I have inherited some decservers that are used for console management.

On any node, if I do "mc latcp show node *" I see 2 decservers while there are at least 10 active. Furthermore, the console output is captured : so it is in use.

All decservers have "announcement" configured.

Why don't I see them all ?

Can I connect to them using latcp ?
(btw : if you register them in ncl as mop clients, you can do set host/mop to them)

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

what gives

$ mc latcp show conn

?

Do you see more Decservers ?

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

Wim,
when you say "decserver" do you intend an alpha server (like DS10) or terminal server (like 90M)?
AFAIK the command MC LATCP SHO NODE display the server node, not terminal server.

That's a new one for me. All the ones used are there.

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

could be LAT service groups. in MCR LATCP SHOW NODE display what user groups and service groups are shown? If not user group 0-255 then
MCR LATCP SET NODE/USER_GROUP=ENABLE=0-255

to enable all then try SHOW SERVICE, SHOW NODE again (may take a minute or two)

Ian,

The value was 0. Changed it as you instructed. No change.

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

the decserver showing his mac address has not been defined in your decserver database.

It is a DEC one, according to
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/stayin-buzy/macaddy2.htm

as it starts with 00606D

Labadie,

Decserver database ? I thought LAT was broadcasting the info ...

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

LAT service nodes broadcast service annoucements. These could be filtered out somewhere. Also LAT service groups can prevent you from seeing all services.

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

Ian,

But if the announcements are blocked, how is the node getting its mac addresses ? Some kind of arp ?

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

LAT, MOP remote console, MOP download, IP, ARP are all different ethernet protocol types and can be blocked or not by network equipment.

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

Terminal server.
But why do I see 2 decservers and not all ?

I guess some server has internal service enabled; in terminal server like 90M or 90TL you can set enable LAT service; connect as console into announced server and type SHOW SERVICE LOCAL (after become administrator).
I guess if you type
$ SET HOST/LAT
you can enter in console mode

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

Hi Wim,

What is the output of command $mc latcp sho service.

I worked on a site, where equinox server used to give service, while other make/model do not.

Thanks & regards,
Lokesh

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

May be what Antoniov is suggested is correct. You have different make/model, right ? As labade suggested, first three sets are different for your terminal servers.

Antonio,

No local service. Set host/lat doesn't work.

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

connect to the DECservers and do SHOW NODE to check service groups.

Are there any ethernet bridges etc between yr system and the DECservers?

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

Ian,

This is a large bank. Nobody knows what is exactly between 2 network points. To my knowledge, LAT can work without being blocked.

All servers have their service groups set to 0.

Re: DECSERVERS visible in LATCP

on the Decserver that just shows his mac address, it is because it needs

set priv
def server name decs12
set server name decs12

or something similar (sorry, I am not sure about the syntax)
