Re: End-of-support for ES40 servers and HSG80 storage
Contact HP support for the current official position.
That said, I'm fairly sure that the ES40 is good to at least 2012, with potential extension beyond. Remember there are only a handful of *VAX* models which have been declared "end of life". I don't think any Alpha models have gone that way yet. HSG80 is likely to be in a similar position.
On the other hand, just because it's "end of support" or even "end of life" doesn't mean it won't work. Conversely, just because it's still supported, doesn't mean it's economical to do so. (There are probably still HSC50's out there, still working and under support, sucking more power than my house, but with a total storage capacity of the whole array less than what I carry around in my iPaq ;-)
Realistically, support will continue for as long as it's profitable for HP to take the money customers are prepared to spend.

Re: End-of-support for ES40 servers and HSG80 storage
-- parts are available
-- customer is prepared to pay
(*) Though long off the list of purchasable hardware, there are still quite some VAXen running worldwide - productive, not just 'for fun'. Above applies to these systems...
For parts, you may look for other channels than HP. There are a number of businesses that sell new and used (refurbished) hardware. Or buy your spare parts buy purchasing old hardware. Some companies sooem to do that ;)
