Re: EV7 and Oracle 8.1.7
make sure to use 8.1.7.4. This is the last Oracle8 version released on OpenVms.
But be aware that even this version is no longer supported by Oracle.

Re: EV7 and Oracle 8.1.7
Oracle 8.1.7.4 is still supported if you have extended support contract. Error correction will be done until 31.dec 2005 and support until 31.dec 2006. But you will have to buy the extended support contract upon your regular support contract.

Re: EV7 and Oracle 8.1.7
This is what I can find:
Error Correction Support (ECS): 31-DEC-2004
Extended Support (ES): 31-DEC-2007
Extended Maintenance Support (EMS): 31-DEC-2006
And my experience is that even with EMS (which should include error correction) you are forced to upgrade to a higher version if you encounter a problem (e.g. ora-00600) that is fixed in a higher version.

Re: EV7 and Oracle 8.1.7
I saw those dates in document on Oracle Metalink id=250629.1 but you know as well as i that what Oracle puts on paper is not allways right. Any way we are running VMS 7.3-2 on 6node cluster and using Oracle 8.1.6, 8.1.7.4, 9.0.1.4 and 9.2.0.5 without any problems..
