Fast lane update from 6.3 to Last OpenVMS version

6.3 is the Last version OpenVMS I got to use, now I may have job opportunity that would involve OpenVMS, so I would like your links, advises, comments on how to best bring myself up to date.

I have had the pleasure to worked with OpenVMS for the best part of 16 years as a network and system administrator, many of those years internally for Digital Equipments so would not call myself a new hand... but I have been busy with Various Unix's and Linux theses last years, so am not up to date.

I will take my time to give points to use full information's as I have set aside some times in a 2 3 weeks time period in which I want to catch up.

I will try follow this forum daily as I follow Linux, because this is a great way to catch up.

Re: Fast lane update from 6.3 to Last OpenVMS version

There are several systems on the network
where you can get a free account, which would
give you a place to explore the new(er)
features, including:

http://www.testdrive.hp.com/

And there are always:

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/

and

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/index.html

There have been some changes, but SET DEFAULT
still works.

Re: Fast lane update from 6.3 to Last OpenVMS version

The docs are good and huge, see
www.openvms.compaq.com/doc

You may notice some differences between an Itanium Console and a Vax or Alpha console, so if you have (or will soon have) an Itanium, check the docs

http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83final/ba322_90045/apb.html
http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/82FINAL/ba322-90032/00/00/81-con.html#chdijeeh

Of course browse the "old" group comp.os.vms

You may post in french on http://fr.openvms.org/forum/

Welcome Jean-Pierre,

I would also recommend that you read the technical journals - http://h71000.www7.hp.com/openvms/journal/

If possible I recommend you to go to the "bootcamp" - http://h71000.www7.hp.com/symposium/
