Guy Peleg is leaving HP

The following was posted today on comp.os.vms:

Dear community,

I wanted to let you know that I have decided to leave HP (I chose to leave on my own). I have been part of DEC/CPQ/HP for almost 10 years, 6 of them in VMS engineering.

I want to thank this forum for all the feedback provided to me over the years.
Look at recent VMS releases (V8.2 and upcoming V8.3) and I'm sure you'll be able to see the tremendous impact this forum had (especially in the utilities area).

I'm going to work with Bruce Ellis at BRUDEN. The company is growing and I'll be responsible for the business in Europe. BRUDEN provides training, services and consulting for VMS and other O/S's (guess which area I'll be working on ;-) so there is a good chance you'll be hearing more from me.

My new email starting September 1st will be guy.pelegATbruden.com

Thank you !

Guy

Guy, I think this is kind of a blow to the VMS user community!
We have come to respect \t\c\e\p\s\e\r\ _LOVE_ what you did to VMS in general, and to DCL in particular!.

GUY,
>>>>>>>>> T H A N K Y O U <<<<<<<<<<<

may you enjoy your new job as much as I ( if I speak for other, chime in please !) enjoyed your work.

And we MUST meet again, because I still owe you a beer!

And congrats to Bruce for catching such a great catch!

Guy, we will be missing you.

Proost.

Have one on me.

Re: Guy Peleg is leaving HP

Hi Jan

after CMOS (Christian Moser) was leaving HP some time ago, I know since some weeks, that Gui Peleg also will leave HP what now happened.

The last few weeks I was asking myself so many times: What happened ? Why do this two super VMS crack's leave HP. Especially Christian is surprising me, because he seems to do something (with Mark Gorham) what has nothing to do with IT.

It makes me sad, because we had a case at my customer site, which Cmos solved in a excellent manner. I like him as an uncomplicated, very responsible person with a lot of knowledge about OpenVMS.

I think we will miss CMOS and Guy as a OpenVMS Engineers very much. Maybee HP should pay them a little bit more .........
Or what else happened ??

Hi,

>Maybee HP should pay them a little bit more

This year two famous VMS veterans left HP in Holland. Ton Dorland and Jur van der Burg.

And I am sure it was not for the money, but for lack of appreciation.

It is weird to notice that HP customers value VMS more than HP itself....

Cheers,

We should all wish Guy the very best!

Sometimes we just need a change in scenery - it may not have been money or lack of appreciation... A year and a half ago I left my job of 15 years and was not lacking in either area - just wanted a change.

Here's also wishing Guy all the best. I too owe him a beer! You'll be missed by all who know what you did for them with VMS.

Fingers cross that the new Mr DCL is just as approachable & enthusiastic :-)

I would like to wish Guy all the best in his new job. Perhaps we can start a poll to determine which functionality Guy should be implementing in the days left to September 1st :-)

Indeed it is sad to hear that another great engineer is leaving VMS engineering.

Good luck, and see you soon.

Guy did a marvellous job. You have had always an open ear and heart for us customers.
Thank you.

On hand it is sad but it is life and we all must look forward. So Guy did it too and that is right!

To Guy,

I also wish you all the best in this career move!

It is a loss for the further development of DCL, but maybe even more so for TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS. Last year at the TUD, Guy told me that he would also be working for the TCP/IP team. I suppose that it was too short a period of time to get really something accomplished!

Hope to see you again, someday, somewhere!

Guy,

Best wishes on your new position with Bruden. Having heard its founders speak at DECUS a number of times, I can't imagine that it will be anything less than a very interesting (and entertaining) place to work.

Your work on DCL has been a huge contribution to everyone using a modern version of VMS. We've greatly valued your comments here on the ITRC, too, and will look forward to an occasional note from you in the future.

(Europe? Why can't _I_ get a job that would send me there now and then? :-)

All the best,

Galen

Galen,

Don't which that too fast. Pick your destination well.

Here in Belgium it's rainy since a almost a month. Pick the south of France if you can. Or Italy (visit Antonio !).

Sad in a way, but a bright light as well: Finally we can get someone teaching VMS that really _knows_ of the system - and not just by the books.

Giy,

All the best - and pay us a visit now and then

Re: Guy Peleg is leaving HP

Guy has done excellent work in DCL and various utilities and has been very responsive to customer requests. I know there are other people still at hp who worked with Guy on DCL etc and continue to work on them so the flow of enhancements will not stop.

I look forward to seeing what Guy does at Bruden.

Re: Guy Peleg is leaving HP

Jan & All,

Sorry for the late response, from whatever
reason I missed this thread until now.

THANK YOU all for your great wishes. Working
at VMS engineering was an amazing
experience, and working with you,
implementing your requests was the highlight
of my career.

BRUDEN is growing, it is expanding into
services and consulting, I was presented
with a great opportunity and chose to accept
it.

I will be joining Sue and her VMS team
for the upcoming technical update days in
Europe so I hope to see all the European
guys in the very near future. I'll also
be attending the Tech Forum in Houston
next week, so make sure you stop at BRUDEN's
booth to say hello.

BRUDEN has exciting offerings in the area
of performance improvements. I do not want
to use the ITRC for advertising so drop
me a line if you are interested.

Again it was a great pleasure and honor
working with you and I hope we'll get
a chance working together in the future.

All the best,

Guy Peleg

One more thing....

I have asked my successor in HP to pick
up the DCL@HP.COM address. It may take
a few days to set up but I encourage
you to continue and sending your input
