How can I get a eval license for HP DFO ?

According to a paper I get every 3 months from HP (with CD's) : www.digital.com/swload , but don't try it because you get an error message.

to get 'demo licenses' there was the 'Software Loan' program in the past, where you could request such licenses via a WEB interface.

But all the relevant pages seem to have (temporarily ?) vanished from the HP web site.

The address shown by Wim is probably supposed to be http://www.digital.com/swloan - but it doesn't work either.

You can try to search the HP web pages for 'software loan'. At least one page referred to an 1-800 number in the US. Call them and try to request a LOAN PAK for Disk File Optimizer for OpenVMS (UPI: 2GN).

You need to talk to your sales person to obtain an evaluation PAK for any product. Log a case against your service contract and a specialist *may* be able to get authorization to send you a temporary PAK (depends on local policies within your geography).

That said, the DEFRAG SHOW command works regardless of the existence of a PAK. You can install the product - when it asks if a PAK is loaded say "YES" then say "NO" to the Installation Verification Procedure.
You're then free to use the SHOW command as often and for as long as you wish.

If you get an evaluation PAK, or purchase one, just REGISTER and LOAD the PAK, and all commands will start working.

What versions of Defrag/VMS allow unlicensed use of the DEFRAG SHOW command? I just installed V2.9 and received the LICENSE-F-NOAUTH error.

The syntax for SHOW is:

$ DEFRAG SHOW DKxxx /VOLUME

Te /VOLUME is nec., else DFO tries to show you a script named DKxxx and this NEEDS a license.

If you want to play with DFO non-commercially, it is included in the OpenVMS Hobbyist programme (see FAQ for pointers).
