HP Patches and Documentation
We had a Problem with DECWindows on a OpenVMS 8.3-1h1 Itanium machine a couple of weeks ago. We logged a call with HP.
HPтАЩs answer was: "Install the newest DECWindows Patches"
I searched those Patches -> ITRC -> download Patches -> OpenVMS 8.3-1h1 -> ???? there are no DecWindows Patches.
Then we found out, that the DECWindows patches for 8.3-1h1 are stored in the 8.3 Directory !!!! (Who is searching Patches for 8.3-1h1 within the 8.3 Directory???). If those patches would be in the right location, I had installed them already then, when I installed VMS 8.3-1h1. Also the distribution DVD for 8.3-1h1 is younger than those DECWindows patches. Why did HP not include those patches to the Distribution DVD?
Now, I have installed OpenVMS 8.4 with TCP/IP 5.7 on a itanium Cluster and encountered a Problem with TCPIP SSH. I connected to the documentation site of HP, selected TCP/IP ( http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/tcpip57.html ) and selected HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Installation and Configuration manual. The Document I opened is the TCPIP Manual for TCPIP V5.6 !!! Where the hell is now the manual for Version 5.7 ?
I hope the quality of OpenVMS is still better than the documentation- and the patch site of HP

Re: HP Patches and Documentation
While there are several engineers from the various development organizations who monitor ITRC your best course of action is to open a call with customer support and to explain the problems officially, in writing emailed directly to your case number (the specialist handling your case should be able to tell you how, if not ask to speak to the backline for that product). If you don't have a support contract then I'm amazed that you're getting any access to patches in the first place.
Please keep in mind that the population and distribution of patches to the various ITRC areas is based on parsing of the release notes and has been automated. The formats of the release notes for products can be distinctly different from those of OpenVMS itself so any tools involved in this distribution process might not be loading the kits in all the right locations all the time. This can be fixed but should be handled through official channels.

Re: HP Patches and Documentation
I do not agree in this case. The title of this page http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/tcpip57.html is TCP/IP Services for Open VMS v 5.7. If I select the Installation and Configuration Guide (HTML or PDF Version) the document loaded is http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/83final/6524/ba548_90005.pdf for TCPIP Version 5.6. There must be a manual for TCPIP Version 5.7, but where? TCPIP 5.7 contains some major changes e.g. Cluster Communication over TCPIP, so there must be a Manual for TCPIP Version 5.7
You can set your mind at rest, we have support contracts for all of our 64 machines.

Re: HP Patches and Documentation
The only updated manual as indicated is the release notes.

I don't think cluster communication needs changes in the user/management aspects of TCPIP
services.
probably the system management and cluster configuration manuals for 8.4 are a better place to read about cluster over IP ?

Re: HP Patches and Documentation
It is reasonable to assume that the documenting of IP clustering is done through the Clustering Manual. It should be pointed out however, that the configuration of the network devices for IP clustering, i.e. assigning IP addresses for clustering, is done through TCPIP$CONFIG, which has been modified for TCPIP 5.7.
Since TCPIP$CONFIG was modified for TCPIP 5.7, then there should be a newly available version of TCPIP V5.7 Manual.
