HPjmeter tool for HP open VMS 8.3 Alpha ES45, to monitor JAVA JDK 5.0-7...need help
Hi All,
As per HP link http://www.compaq.com/java/faq/ovms.html#3.6).
it says we can use HPjmeter tool for performance monitoring for JAVA on VMS alpha.
however, we are getting confused, which one to use from the below link.
Could anybody suggest on this, please.
Regards
Prakash

Re: HPjmeter tool for HP open VMS 8.3 Alpha ES45, to monitor JAVA JDK 5.0-7...need help
You're reading what looks to be a very stale FAQ page (at an old Compaq domain) that references a 1.6 version of the HPjmeter tool where 4.2 looks current. But you knew that.
Call HP support directly, and ask them to resolve their documentation and support; this may or may not be officially supported any more, but clearly nobody's updated this documentation in a decade or so.
Pending that resolution, download 4.2 and try it. (What's the worst that happens?)

Re: HPjmeter tool for HP open VMS 8.3 Alpha ES45, to monitor JAVA JDK 5.0-7...need help
I followed the HP link and did a little more clicking around and found the V4.2 release notes. No mention about anything related to OpenVMS whatsoever, just HP-UX, some vague Non-Stop references and Winders. Maybe the V3.6 (or earlier) release mentioned in the OP but finding that or any related documentation on a HP site...good luck.

Thanks Hoff, bob,
HP suggested below...
No HPJmeter wil not work!
There is no tool from HP.
HPROF tool should work, this is no HP tool, so we can’t help setting this up.
The Java performance guide outline a lot of OpenVMS tuning topics.

Do not expect any good JAVA performance on ALPHA, Java on OpenVMS Itanium works great!

Interesting.
Are there benchmarks available that compare Java performance on Alpha and Itanium? (And preferably also with Java on x86-64 boxes?)
That an Itanium is faster than an Alpha isn't a surprise. (The last generations of the Alpha chips shipped in 2002 and 2004. If any recent Itanium isn't faster than Alpha, then there's a problem.) How much faster would be an interesting detail, though.
It'd be interesting to see the details on the differences that should be expected here.
