LTT v3.5SR2 and VMS v7.3-1 (update v1.0) ?

Hello,

I have downloaded v3.5SR2 of LTT this morning and installed it to a VMS system. When attempting to invoke LTT I get the following error :-

%DCL-W-ACTIMAGE, error activating image PTHREAD$RTL
-CLI-E-IMGNAME, image file $1$DGA100:[SYS3.SYSCOMMON.][SYSLIB]PTHREAD$RTL.EXE
-SYSTEM-F-SHRIDMISMAT, ident mismatch with shareable image

The info about LTT v3.5 SR2 suggests that it will work with VMS v7.3-1 onwards.
We have VMS v7.3-1 with patch vms731_update v1.0 installed.

I get exactly the same result when using LTT v3.5SR1. Does anyone know if there's a version of LTT that will work with the version of VMS we're using ?

Hi Tony,

You need to install VMS731_PTHREAD V4.0 for it to work. I don't think it's documented.

I notice that pthread_v400 lists update_v0300 as a prerequisite.
I'm going to look into upgrading to the latest kit, i.e. update_v0500. It's likely to be a couple of weeks before that can be installed in the production cluster so in the meantime a usable version of LTT would be come in handy.

I think you'll have to wait. The SR1 kit also requires the PTHREAD update and it's not too stable (accvio's) I've not used the SR2 s/w in production yet.

Are you firmware flashing HP SDLT drives ?

...Neither of these kits actually contain much in the way of pre-loaded firmware and last time I looked I had to hunt around the web site to find them (latest I've seen for SDLTs is V082).

Oh, the s/w has a download from web option, but it doesn't work and the link to the firmware I have no longer works, sorry

Maybe someone else has a new link ?

The main reason I wanted to use LTT was for Tape-drive firmware checks/updates.

We have 3 MSL5026 library units with 2 of SDLT220's in each (6 drives in total). All of the drives were at either fwr-41 or fwr-51, until recently when one of them was replaced with a new drive at fwr-82. Since then we have had intermittent problems with the new drive and also the other drive from the same library.

I would like to lower the firmware revision on the new drive from v82 to v51 (or v45), hence I began looking at LTT. Do you know what the easiest way to update the firmware on these drives is ?

1. You can firmware update directly from tape. I've done this with success on TZ drives without problem.

2. For SDLT drives I've only used LTT (on several Alphas) upgrading and downgrading V075 & V082 (we only have SDLT160/320 drives). It's very simple. There were lots of fixes in V075. We've found both the above versions stable. We've only had one drive at a lower rev. it was immediately flashed before use.

I'll have another look for the firmware. AFAIK there's only 75 & 82 on the web (somewhere)

I plan to try and 'accelerate' our upgrade to vms 7.3-2. Perhaps that will resolve the intermittent tape-drive problems we're having. It'll also mean that we can use LTT.
