:-O VMS is on "top members"

Dear reader,
look carefully at ITRC main page http://forums2.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/parseCurl.do?CURL=%2Fcm%2F1%2C%2C%2C00.html&admit=-1335382922+1121323951120+28353475
please, look at top right corner
You can see the young Uwe at 25th position.
He brings both VMS and storage on "Top Members" where until now was reserved for unix people.

Dear vms friend,
don't forget assigning points here, if you love vms like us. Be generous. So other fellows of our comunicty can go on top rank.

Uwe,
thank you for your time and hints.
Please, continue.
You are Gr8!

Great achievement, Uwe.
Congrats.

And note that Uwe is the "youngest" ITRC member of those listed in the Top-25.
He joined the ITRC on February 16, 2004; the rest joined much earlier.

Again, great achievement, and keep on foruming.

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Thanks for the friendly feedback - it is really appreciated. I already found a nice message from somebody else in my mailbox this morning.

"Young Uwe" ... giggle. When I _was_ young, I was always rated 3-4 years older. Nice to hear that it has turned the other way now. ;-)

Watch out, this page accumulates points from ITRC and Business support forums.

Ian, I have 2 questions and 18 responses in my profile.

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Wim,
in top 100, vms members are 4%. I think we are too little: vms is very important os.
I hope JPE and Volker early go into top 100 followed by some other fellow.
As Didier posted, it's important create the "mass effect" for vms

Thank to Uwe, who is the top of vms icesberg.

Antonio,

An interesting example of a possible effect of "backwards" metrics. Buggy and obscure can generate more "experts" (i.e., those with high scores), than a system that is debugged and documented. It is a little perverse when you think about it.

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Uwe,

GRATULIERE!

This is REALLY an achievement in this HPUX dominated environment.

And it shows that I really have some work to do before I get there :-(

Antonio, it is Ian Miller who is at the top of VMS' iceberg.
I know why I don't claim "expert" status ;-)

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Robert,
I believe bunny and points don't create experts but forum it the modern concept of "agora" (agora was the place where Atheniens meet each other).
Vms member in top rank is just for advertisement :-)
This forum is very useful for vms people: I learned a lot of new things and I'm convinced it's the same for some other guy.

Well, one must be the first ;-) But who will be the first VMS-only one in the top-25??

But regardless the remarks: congratulations, Uwe!.

It is not just the system, it is also it's user base. I scored a bunch of points in the HPUX forum with 'real' hpux questions, but I scored many more answerring 'simple' scripting and oracle questions. Often just a one-liner awk/perl/sed/grep answer would do.
Those questions were mostly platform independent, and indeed I mostly tested my answers under windows or VMS. Such questions just wil not be asked in say the Linux or VMS forums. The users for those forums can and will figure it out on their own.

Hein.

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

I agree with Hein. That and the much higher "mileage" on the HP-UX forum is going to result in a much higher point total for the time being.

Anyway...congratulations, Uwe -- the kudos are well-deserved!

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Antonio,

if you are not looking too strickt, than Ian just _MIGHT_ pass off as VMS$only (just some congrats, and some 'general' issues), but ME?

I hold a green hat in HPUX points alone!
(but until now I never touched a HPUX system in my life as far as I am aware of)

-- mostly because they still rank most Forums issues is HPUX, and I like to enter "The VMS view" towards issues that have a much broader scope than just HPUX, but still, hardly VMS-only...

Then again, I rank scoring points on VMS education in the HPUX forum very high on my personal satisfaction!

Proost.

Have one on me.

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

I agree with nearly all the things which are mentioned here. But I won't like to see a pure VMS problem solver on the podium ;-)
And I'm glad to have to maintain my systems with 10 or 30 patches instead of 2000 or 4000.

Cheers

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Hello,

sorry, I did not understand why persons get points for that thread. If there is a good solution for a software- / hardware problem (sorry, I am a German and may be this word is to strong, then I understand, that you get points. This is the second thread, which I did see, where poeple get point for nothing (IMHO). Points should indicate how quality of service.

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Rudolf,
in my mind, point assignation is a serious feature and a little game.
Everybody wants to earn points has to know matter and must take time to answer.
Points and hats give you a vague idea about knowledge of people; keep your own idea about the same people reading their posts.
However, for me, it's more important vms comunity (all fellows) can grow up than one or two people become important.

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Rudolf,

'getting points for doing nothing' is too strong.
I agree that a good solution deserves points (something that is forgotten too much).
But creating a 'good feeling' in your community is also important and why not
congratulating each other with achievements?
Giving points costs nothing and has no other reward to the receiver then virtual status.

And you will not get ranked high by only answering 'these kind of threads'. (or at least
not that high).

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

That would be an interesting experiment, though:
create a user just to collect points from congrats threads in *all* forums and see how far you can get.

Somebody with a little bit of time at hand?

Re: :-O VMS is on "top members"

Uwe,
I have 623 points in my score for HP-UX General: they are merely for congratulation.
It's the same in linux (21 pts) and almost in microsoft (257).
I believe my congratulation score are:
Linux->11; HPUX->623; MS->~50; True64->3;
OV->3; VMS->~300.
TOTAL=~1000 pts
Major volume is by HP-UX where people assigns points too more than guys of other forum.

Congrats Uwe!

No 1 in storage and
no 2 in VMS .
So it must not be hp-ux.

Great work!
