Upgrade from 7.1-2 to 7.3-2

I am going to upgrade one of our 7.1-2 cluster and I want to know how to go to 7.3-2.
Regarding the releases notes of 7.3-2 and the french HP support, I must do it in two way, first 7.3 and then 7.3-2.

But on the hp web site , in the news "New OpenVMS OS upgrade chart available " from July 11, 2005 and in the FAQ, I saw I can directly go from 7.1-2 to 7.3-2.

Can someone confirm the direct way because I will save about 2 hours in my upgrade process ? Is it supported ?

Thanks

Re: Upgrade from 7.1-2 to 7.3-2

When I evaluated this last year (V7.1 to V7.3-2), the situation was similar - no direct upgrade possible. The customer happened to have V7.2-2, so I used this for the first step.

Like Uwe,
last year I had to upgrade in two steps.

Blanquart,

are you planning a ROLLING upgrade, or a shutdown-upgrade-freshboot procedure?

AFAIK, the stand-alone one-step upgrade is possible, but the rolling upgrade has to be done in (at least) two steps.

Do you intend to upgrade only one system in a cluster? If so you should review Chapter 6 of the "Upgrade and Installation Manual" at http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/732FINAL/aa-rv8za-te/aa-rv8za-te.HTMl "Mixed-Version Support in an OpenVMS Cluster Environment "

Version 7.1-2 isn't documented to share a cluster with 7.3-2. It will probably work, but your support requirements may not make this a desireable configuration.

Re: Upgrade from 7.1-2 to 7.3-2

It is a simple upgrade of a cluster two node with one system disk (shutdown-upgrade-freshboot) no rolling

Re: Upgrade from 7.1-2 to 7.3-2

Hi,
Following is from OpenVMS 7.3-2 Release notes (section 1.4).

Upgrade Paths
V7.3-2

Upgrade Paths to Version 7.3-2

You can upgrade directly to OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-2 from only the following
versions of OpenVMS Alpha:

Version 7.3-1
Version 7.3
Version 7.2-2
Version 7.2-1
Version 7.2-1H1
Version 7.2

If you are currently running OpenVMS Alpha Version 6.2x through 7.1x, you must do a two-step upgrade: first to Version 7.2-2 or 7.3, and then to Version 7.3-2. If you are running other versions of OpenVMS that are no longer supported, you will have to do multiple upgrades in accordance with
upgrade paths that were documented for
earlier versions.
